Amazingly appropriate that great great grandfather's literature is made available by the very institution that he contributed to developing.

Deanna 16th birthday

Deanna held her party at the Serbian Club in Granville. A large hall, lots of food and much merriment and music. A great celebration for her and she did look like very much the princess on the day.

RSL says thanks, Bill

Bill Foster has received an RSL Meritorious Service medal for is efforts at the Berowra sub-branch.

Bill Foster has received a rare honour commemorating outstanding service to the Berowra RSL sub-branch. He was awarded the RSL Meritorious Service Medal - the highest medal an RSL member can receive. It is awarded to only a few members throughout Australia.

Mr Foster, who served in the navy during the World War II, said he was surprised and delighted to receive the award. He is one of only tow remainng founation members of the Berowra RSL sub-branc, which gained its charter in 1947.

"It was just something that we took a position in helping other people and caring for other people," he said.

"There was a big need for the veterans, to their families, some without fathers. It was part of our constitution, our aim, to do these things. We formed the youth club, which was a very successful one and is still going strong."

In fact, he was so dedicated to the youth club that he used to take the soccer teams for their away games on the train and arranged all the transport to return them home.

In recognition of his efforts, he was made a life member of the Berowra Cricket Club.

Mr Foster was treasurer of the sub-branch for 35 years and at 88 is still actively involved as a committee member and patron.

"We are finding much more need for the veterans as they are growing older," he said.

He is a life member of both the sub-branch and the RSL club.

Tennis in Berowra Waters Rd

At some time before 1990's the Tuesday morning Tennis Ladies moved to the courts in Berowra Waters Road. Where they continue to the present day. Mum played with the them until she was no longer able. So I figure that she was playing continuously for about 40 years.
There are a few more photos from this here.

Tennis Ladies of Waratah Rd Berowra

I had planned to visit the tennis ladies at Berowra and collect some historic photos of the group over the years.. however, time got away from me, so Brian and Helen copied the photos for me and they arrived today. Click on the link below for the Waratah Road photos where mum played since I was a baby until about the eighties.

It was so kind of the ladies to provide these memories as I had very few photos of the early days and tennis was a constant in mums life. Must be where I picked up the interest to play.

Click here for some more photos.

Tennis Ladies

I asked Helen to assist with identifying the names of mum's tennis chums. The names below are straight from the tennis court today.

Front: Shirley Parkinson, Ida Smith, Irene Carlille, Helen Mason.

Kindly provided by the Berowra Tennis Ladies,

Johnny Chen memorial

It was very sad to hear of the passing of Johnny Chen. Amara was very upset by this news. It was though thoughtful of the family to send through photos of the memorial to his memory and the effort that was made to fulfil traditional Cambodian rites at this sad time. Amara and the other members of the family are reassured to have received emails and phone calls.

Amy 21 st

Amy turned 21 .. and we drove down to celebrate with her. Its a long way from the bump in Lils tummy to the vibrant young woman about to set off for the UK. The party was fun and it was great to see she has settled into her new environment with boyfriend and all, even if she is about to set off on her big adventure.
