I drove the 4x4 Explorer 100km down the Icefields Parkway from Jasper to the Icefields Centre. Just as much ice on the road as there was in the glaciers I think. James thought we were all crazy to keep jumping out of the car every 100 metres just to photograph the breathtaking scenery. Well worth the drive and especially so in winter.
Pyramid Lake, our first tour in the luxury deville ... beautiful spot. That chap out on the ice is preparing a field for ice hockey. What a setting for a game. We could not go much further as I was just getting used to the car and I really wanted the 4x4 for driving on icy roads. The sedan did have traction so it worked well enough.
That is me rugged up to the hilt for the Maligne Canyon Icewalk. This was some adventure with Sukkha, Poh See and James. With three layers of gloves and chemical handwarmers it was still pretty chilly in the depths of the canyon. We essentially walked along the river bed and into a frozen waterfall. One poor lass was not dresssed so well and had to be taken out by one of the guides as she was suffering hyperthermia.
This is what I look like after a 2 hour run with a dog sled. Seriously cold at -16deg C but lucky it had warmed up enough to go sledding. Chand had a ride in the sled while had the chance to shout "mush" and "go you huskies" and guide the sled between towerin pines, avalanche shrouded mountains and icy waterfalls. BBQ sausages and hot cider for lunch just about topped us up for the chilly dash back down the mountain and the warmth of van transfer back to Jasper.
Lisa flew in from Alpharetta and we from Vancouver for few days togther in San Fran. It was great to see her and this pic was taken on our city tour that ended up overlooking the Golden Gate. We had been Fishermans Wharf, jumped a tram and took in a day tour of Alcatraz. A happy time, glad we did this.
